About the Magnet Spinner

A fun and simple way to keep your hands occupied. They can also be stacked when the fun is done.

Each magnet spinner has a very strong neodymium magnet inside. The case that encapsulates the magnet is enlarged in certain areas to help prevent the magnets from pinching you really bad when the magnets collide with each other.

More about this project

I like to use magnets in some things that I create. I had some of these very strong neodymium magnets sitting around from another project where I was experimenting with different magnets.

One day I was holding on to one magnet and another one slid over and attached to it on the diameter side of the magnet. When I picked up one of the magnets the other one started to rotate around the one I was holding. I started purposely spinning it and realized that it was very satisfying.

The only problem was that when I spun it really fast and got too careless the spinning magnet would flip and the flat sides of the magnets would attract. This led to a very loud snap from the strong attraction and me getting pinched. This pinch usually would give me a blood blister.

To fix this pinching problem I designed and printed a housing that was wide enough in certain areas to avoid the flipping and also to help prevent really bad pinching.
